Henri Bok's newest formation "HeRo" - together with master jazz pianist Rob van Bavel - reconnects him to his jazz roots and to his love for Eric Dolphy.

"HeRo" presents a unique blend of musical styles: original compositions, standards, ballads, improvisation, contemporary jazz and worldmusic.

Henri Bok has promoted the bass clarinet and its repertoire for more than thirty years, both as a performer and a teacher.
He received his musical education at the Rotterdam Conservatoire where he obtained performance degrees for saxophone and bass clarinet "cum laude".
Since 1981 he has been Professor of Bass Clarinet at the Rotterdam Conservatoire, where his unique bass clarinet course attracts students from all over the world.

As a performer he has been very active in contemporary chamber music (Duo Contemporain, Duo Novair, Bass Instincts, Duo Clarones) and as a soloist. Worldwide he has given concerts and masterclasses in 36 different countries. Hundreds of new compositions have been written for and dedicated to Henri Bok by renowned composers from all over the world.

Bok gives annual summercourses in Ávila (Spain) and Ostrava (Czech Republic) and is guest professor at Musikene in San Sebastian. He has recorded over thirty CDs, written articles for many important music magazines and is the author of the standard work for his instrument, "New Techniques for the Bass Clarinet".

Henri Bok has written more than 15 original works, mainly for bass clarinet solo.

    Henri Bok plays a Selmer "Privilege" bass clarinet, a Luis Rossi wooden bell and a Pomarico crystal mouthpiece.
