During his long career Henri Bok has always searched for new sound combinations leading to unusual instrumental groups: Duo Contemporain (with marimba/vibraphone), Duo Novair (with accordeon), Bass Instincts (with bass oboe), Duo Clarones (bass clarinet duo), Duo HeRo (with jazz pianist Rob van Bavel) and Duo Hevans (with Eleri Ann Evans, saxophones).
Duo HeRo reconnects Henri Bok to his jazz roots and his love of Eric Dolphy.
Ensemble partner Rob van Bavel (www.robvanbavel.com) is one of Holland’s best jazz pianists.
Both duo members contribute original compositions to the duo’s repertoire.
Duo HeRo has recorded four CDs: ‘HeRo’ (Bloomline 05-040); ‘HeRo’s Own’ (Shoepair Music CD 801); ‘HeRo’s Heroes’ (Shoepair Music CD 802) and ‘HeRo’s Classics’ (Shoepair Music CD 803).
Duo Hevans was founded in 2005 and comprises the extraordinary combination of bass clarinet and tenor saxophone, and wants to develop adventurous programming that makes use of diverse musical styles and techniques.
Since the start of this exceptional duo the number of compositions written for it has exploded!
Duo Hevans has given concerts in North and South America (Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Tempe, São Paulo, Recife and Poços de Caldas), Asia and across Europe.
Recently Duo Hevans enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with NMK, a group of young Norwegian composers linked with the Norwegian ISCM. The new music developed was presented in a World tour in 2011/2012 (Norway, England, Spain and Brazil).
In July 2012 Duo Hevans gave two concerts at the XVIth World Saxophone Congress in St Andrews, Scotland.
They will perform and lecture at The Performer’s Voice 2nd Symposium in Singapore at the end of October 2012.
